The Plant Accountant assists the Accounting Manger to ensure the Plant has appropriate processes in place to control costs and provide good, sound financial controls. Assistance related to financial controls to include monthly close process, goods received not billed control, self audit questionnaire, cycle count process, purchasing policies and procedures, accurate capital forecasting and tracking purposes, raw materials inventory process, time and material projects. Work with the Accounting Manager and Plant staff to ensure financial reporting accuracy.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports (raw material usage, cost, overhead)
  • Plan, study, and collect data to determine cost of business activity, such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor.
  • Analyze changes in raw materials and manufacturing methods to determine effects on cost.
  • Conduct weekly cycle counts of raw materials and finished goods inventory & analyze variances
  • Compute and analyze weekly material usage variances
  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices & profitability of products
  • Maintain the plant's cost accounting system
  • Handle month-end closing activities including journal entries, closing transactions and corporate reporting
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and physical inventory
Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting with at least 3 years of demonstrated cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.  Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.  Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in Word, Outlook, and Power Point.  Demonstrated experience must illustrate a history of increased, progressive responsibilty.  Strong communicator with keen attention to detail.
